Value of Belgium Browning A-5

I have a belgium browning sweet sixteen. The only numbers I can find on it are 74232. I received this from my grandfather, and do not know much about this gun, or the value. Does anyone know what the value of this gun is? In good condition.

    Hello and welcome to the Experts Forum...

    Browning A-5 Sweet Sixteens can be worth as much as $1600 - $1800, but only for those specimens that are in like new condition. Your description "In good condition." does not really tell us anything.

    Now, before we go any further, does your Browning specifically say "SWEET SIXTEEN" on the left side of the receiver, or is it simply a 16 gauge A-5? Vent rib barrel or plain? Choke marking? Barrel length? Check the forestock for a longitudinal stress crack (the majority of the older A-5s have cracked forestocks). How much of the original factory bluing is still on the receiver/frame and the barrel? Does it have its original buttplate (versus a recoil pad)?

    As you can see, there are just too many unanswered question to give you an answwr to your question.

    I do not believe it is a sweet 16 since it does not specifically say sweet 16. I belive it is a Plain barrel. I Dont see any choke marking. Barrel length is 25 inches. The forestock does have a stress crack. I am not sure about the bluing... how would i determine that? It also has the original butt plate.

    OK, so it is a standard grade 16 gauge A-5. The ckoke marking is on the left side of the barrel near the receiver, and consists of the following -

    * = Full Choke (F)
    *- = Improved Modified (IM)
    ** = Modified (M)
    **- = Improved Cylinder (IC)
    **$ = Skeet (SK)
    *** = Cylinder bore (CYL)

    As for the bluing, compare those areas that get handled frequently to the protected areas. If you would like, you can send a few photos to me at Win1885@msn.com
