WWII Japanese Rifle
Ihave an old Japanese rifle. Asoki I think the mechanical parts are in good condition However the wood has been sportized. The barrel is chrome lined. the unique thing about it is the rosette symble is un- touched as are the japasese letters and the numbers on the barrel It does not have the cleaning rod or the bipod.Can someone tell me the worth of this gun.please. e-mail 1mskip2u1944@verizon.net Thankyou.

A "Sporterized" rifle is still only a hunting rifle, whether the Mum has been ground or not. At this late date it very unlikely that you would be able to get your hands on the correct furniture, to put it back in original condition, even if it's ONLY? the stock that's been screwed with.
Depending on cosmetics, my 2? as deer rifle it's worth between $150 & $250.

Last year, my Dad purchased a Japanese Arisoka 93 or 98 along with a Lee-Enfield WWII rifle for $350 together. The Arisoka came with the origonal bayonet. I would say it must be worth $150 or so. 0 -

If the bore is chrome lined, you have the Type 99 Arisaka in 7.7 Jap. The Mum being intact is a real plus. Depending on the series, matching bolt?, and other mitagating factors, it is very hard to give you a value.
Stocks and furniture are available but pricy. I have started buying ground rifles and swapping out parts on sporterized rifles. HOWEVER, this is difficult to do correctly UNLESS you know which series came with what piece.
With the multitude of modifications throughout the production, you would need to match your series with the same series parts to realize an accurate piece.
Your rifle may or may not have had the monopod. Very few actually did although most have the hardware for it. Again, the series is the determining factor.
FYI: the series marking is the IROHA symbol just forward of the serial number on the left side of the receiver. Very tiny and indecypherable in Western standards, it must be compaired to the IROHA symbols in Hunnycutts MILITARY RIFLES OF JAPAN for example.
They are fasinating pieces but an area which requires much study to become proficient. Unlike European and Russian weapons which have recognisible letters, Japanese weapons are a whole new game.
