6MM Dasher, tell me about it

I am considering having my favorite gunsmith, "the Reverend" build me a rifle on a Rem 700 action with a Shilen Barrel 1# trigger, Burris Signature 8X32 scope and laminated stock in 6MM DASHER caliber for general plinking and G-hog shooting.

Does any one have comments on the 6MM Dasher round, good or bad, barrel burner, twist recommendations?

    The Dasher is probably the most popular of the improved 6BR cases, since it retains the longest neck. Gunsmith Dan Dowling is credited with its invention. It offers about 4gr more case capacity than the standard case--good for an extra 130 fps with a 105gr bullet. The Dasher has been very effective out to 1000 yds, and it just set a new NBRSA 6-target 1000-yard world record Agg.
    Pacific Tool & Gauge (Dave Kiff) is the best source for 6 Dasher reamers. Specs: 40 degree shoulder, blown forward .100", Neck-length = .246". Requires Custom Dies.

    This is hardly a barrel burner since the case will only hold about 40.5 grains of H2O to the top of the neck. The primary design was for longer range target shooting and varmint hunting. It has excelled at the target shooting as you can read at the above links. Recoil is mild and loads are very easy to work up. The only drawback that I could come up with is the cost of custom dies but even that is minimal when compared to the cost of the project overall. Buy Lapua brass and don't bother with any other brand. This cartridge can be shot in barrel lengths from 22" out through 30" depending on the bullet weight, twist and use. If you are intent on long range target, make sure that you get a barrel with an 8" twist unless you want to shoot the DTAC bullets that require a 7.5" twist. I use one for 600 yard and F-Class shooting.

    If you want to load from a magazine, make sure that your gunsmith reads the section on the magazine changes that Mike Bryant (gunsmith) created.
