Powder Recomendation

I am just getting started with my Dillon 550b. I will be loading .45 acp 230gr fmj and .223 Rem. 55gr fmj. I just bought all the equipment and now I am very low on funds. I would like to know which powders are most economical for each. I only use it for plinking so I don't need superior accuracy or super high velocity, I just need it to go bang. I would prefer a ball type or something that would meter well in my 550b. We do alot of shooting so it will be very high volume. Can anyone here help me decide on cheap propellants to start out with?

    I use clays, not clay universal for my .45 it is very clean, and has noticeably less recoil during my testing with 231, and unique while making the same velocity

    Winchester 231 is the most efficient powder for .45 ACP and has given me very consistent performance with decent velocities.

    Save the seals-club a liberal instead.

    700X for the 45. Clean burning, low flash and meters great! My experience with 231 has been uniformly bad. I totally dislike that powder. In fact the last 1/2 can I had left, I dumped into a hole in the ground and lit it. Grandkids thought that was really neat fireworks and wanted me to do it again. Would have if I'd had more of the stuff. H-335 for the 223.If you can get one of the surplus powders like 846, they work very well but usually you have to buy it in 8lb jugs. Might be more than you want to spend.

    Since you said you were not concerned about superior accuracy or high velocity, buy surplus bulk powder in six or eight pound kegs from a place like here:

    www.gibrass.com

    You might find surplus powder for about $72.00 for an eight pound keg for your 223. Its hard to get any more economical than that.
