Youth pump action?

My husband wants to get me a youth 12 or 20 gauge pump. My mother said that most of the youth pumps are made of "plastic ****." WHat do you guys think? And what should I look for(names, types of wood, etc...)

One shotgun comes to mind right off, its the Remington 870 youth model in 20 gauge. They are steel and wood as it seems you prefer.

The "plastic" guns your husband speeks of are made of a tough polymer that can take a real beating(durability), more so then the wood stocks can. The Benelli Nova is on of them branded "plastic ****" guns that your hubby is referring to, truth be told I'd take it over ANY other pump shotgun on the market.

you can go with a Remington 870 express youth ( matt finish, hardwood stock ) you can also buy a Remington 870 Wingmaster which has nice blueing and a decend walnut stock and do 1 of 2 things either find a youth stock to put on it , (which they are out there) or have the stock cut down by a gunsmith to fit you ,, since you are an adult I would go with haveing the stock sized to fit you

you could also do the same thing if you want a semi auto shotgun like a Remington 1100 or 1187

good morning gunmetalblue,

over twenty-five years past i started my son out with an ithaca m37, 20 gauge. my former wife said she could shoot that gun. bottom line i had to get another for her. we have been divorced over eighteen years, she still has her's under her bed.

this past year my son started his nine year old out with his old m37.

the 870 is a classic also, either would be a good starter shotgun,

have a good rest of tuesday,

ps: just me but i prefer wood over plastic, 20 over 12 for a starter.

You guys just never let me down! My husband doesn't understand why I'm talking to you guys, when he knows all this stuff already. The thing is, I don't want to make him feel bad by saying, I don't understand. you guys keep it short and sweet,my husband likes to talk. Hehehe.
