contender carbine barrel

I am finally going to use my contender as a carbine for whitetail. Which cal. to buy? I already have rifles in the .30 cal area, so a bigger or smaller would be cool. Any ideas for a deer carbine setup???

    7 x 30 waters [:D][:D]
    30-30 case necked down to 7mm , since you are using it in a single shot you can use pointed bullets ,, factory ammo is limited but if you reload , you can work up some really nice loads

    or if you want you can go with a 30-30 barrel still works good and ammo is cheaper

    I do use a 10" 30/30, but would a carbine shoot well with the same loads? I reload, but I already do a flat nose for my marlin and a pointed soft point for my contender in 150grn. I would hate to have to load a third 30/30 round. My only wonder about the unusual rounds like the 7-30 waters is the cost of dies??

    I have a 18" .300 win Mag Encore barrel. It is nice but I can't hold the scopes in the rings. See post on the subject in this forum.

    you only buy dies once so even if they cost a few bucks more its not much of a big deal
    about your 30-30 load for the 10" I guess it would depend on what powder you are using but I would think you could come up with a load that would work in both barrels

    I am awaiting the arrival of a 21" barrel in 45-70 Gov./trapdoor for my Contender.[:D][:D][:D][8D]

    I will also be installing a better recoil pad, instead of the aluminum butt-plate in my carbine stock. Maybe the deer will do a flip when hit by this? ...while my shoulder will survive?

    But I've heard so much about this 7X30 Waters, that I may tend to lean in that direction too. [;)][^]

    In the carbine, I would use either the 6.5 JDJ or the 6.5 Bullberry for deer. Both are excellent cartridges, the bullet selection for the 6.5's is large and varied and the ballistic design of the 6.5 bullets is superb.

    The JDJ case is based on the .225 Winchester and the 6.5 Bullberry is the venerable 30-30.
