Any German issues bayos for the 98 work. The long 98, the short 98, the 98/05 "butcher" works. The first issue bayo was the 98 long slender bayo. It flexed and snapped a lot. Then came the "butcher". Good bayo and was used extensively during WWI. Weimar used the short 98 blade. Note that none had barrel rings and used only the rail for mounting and support.
GPC has tons of rods and they are being reproduced too. I have a number of these including the super rare Kornbush manufacture. Who was your maker? Mauser and DWM are the most common.
