how to remove gold from Walmart 1100

I am interested in the price and configuration of the Walmart Sam Walton guns but would want to remove the gold signature and face - any easy methods of removal? Thanks and good shooting.

    The gold is probably electro plated on and knowing walmart it's done cheaply as possible. Put a couple hundred rounds through the gun and it should come right off. [:D]

    Yeah, you're other option would be reverse electrolysis to remove it but that's be a pain to do if you aren't already in the business of doing plating[B)]

    Actual gold is incredibly solvent and corrosion resistant.

    Thats why the ancient philosophers considered it a "noble" metal. That's why its used to plate expensive electrical connections.

    Even pure nitric acid wont corrode it.

    If you want to dissolve it you'll have to use either a cyanide solution (which is so toxic it will probably kill you), or aqua regia, which is a concentrated solution of 3 parts hydrochloric and 1 part nitric acid.

    Drop that on your skin and it will eat right through. In fact, drop any on your gun, and it will etch right through the bluing. . .in fact aqua regia will even dissolve stainless steel!

    Needless to say, these are probably not practical methods!

    The only thing you have going for you is that gold is rather soft. . .and the layer plated onto your gun is probably microscopically thin (if its even real gold. . .which actually I somewhat doubt. . .you might call the manufacturer of the gun and ask them).

    No crap, I'd try rubbing with a pencil eraser and see what happens. Chance of damaging anything this way is small. What can you lose?

    Too much work for me; I'd just get some matte black spray finish from Brownell's & spray that on the receiver.

    Try some finger nail polish remover.It's most likely just gold paint and finger nail polish remover won't hurt the bluing.Actually WD-40 does a good job of softening gold paint then use a plastic tooth pick or a stiff tooth brush to dig it out-of the lettering .[:)] [^]

    You could fill the etching with black lacquer too.

    it cant be real gold in a walmart gun. sounds to me like a gold wash. ehhh, just spray the thing black or just do a camo tape job to it so it all is there when you go to sell it someday.[^]
