Torque
I have read about torquing the stock bolts and scope screws to certain specs and am interested in finding out where and what to buy for a tool to do this. I am interested in something that can measure a regular bolt and the hex bolt on my savage.

a good clicker torque wrench can do it for ya. snap-and sk and mac make very good ones in all sizes and parameters. 0 -

As for your question, torque is any twisting force. So if you heard 'torque those screws down tight" ( like the foreward action screw in a bolt action ) it just means get your shoulder into it.
If you have heard of specific specs. for 'torquing' screws on a rifle
or scope.....could this have come from the benchrest shooters ??
Yeah, you can go for it but you're gonna need a torque wrench in 'inch pounds' and another torque wrench in 'foot pounds'. ( try the automotive parts store )( and bring your plastic, your 'walking around cash' probably won't cut it )
Don't forget to buy the "flat" and "star" screwdriver adapters that will fit the 3/8 and 1/4 inch square drives on the torque wrenches.

Torque for most bolt actions is around 65 inch pounds.That is about what the average man(not the big B.U.Fs)can do with a screwdriver with one hand.Snug but don't over do it. 0 -

A foot pound wrench should not be necessary unless you are working on a howetiser! For the job you want look for a torque wrench that has a screwdriver handle. A typical torque wrench with a breaker bar type handle can be very inaccurate with very small torques.
