12ga blanks/poppers load data
anyone have access to data for loading blanks. i can't find any in my sources. need this for dog training. thanks!!!

the problem with loading blanks is that in order to get the right report, you need resistance in the bore. meaning...shot or a projectile. just loading a primer w/o any guts just gives the report of a 22. simply resize the hull, seat the primer and crimp it, bang. trying to load a hull with just a primer and gunpowder behind a wad will just give you a pooper.

You do know that you can buy 12 gauge blanks?
A friend does lots of dog training. He uses a .22 Taurus revolver and .22 power loads from Lowe's. Very loud.

I have made confetti loads by loading with ww296(reduced charge) and a wad filled with shredded paper and about 1/4 load of shot (30 or so). These are still dangerous down range and will occasionally break a clay target. They do not go boom either. Most blank loads involved using black powder. I don't want that in my gun and I doubt you do either.
Seems like someone made a dummy cartridge and it used a pistol blank
in the dummy load for dog training. Otherwise, a pistol with blanks or a starters pistol might be a better way to go.0 -
Winchester makes smokeless blanks. Our honor guard uses them for salutes, and they are LOUD.

hey guys- factory 12ga blanks are $11-12 per box. our retriever club uses them for trials. one reason for reloading is to save money...right. there are lots of reasons not to "just shoot live loads into a bush". i have looked all over for blank load data. there is no known reason to me that i shouldn't be able to load blanks. i understand about wad pressures, etc. i took apart a winchester popper. there was 17 grains of powder, cork overpowder wad and some sort of media shell to fill the case and crimp it.
we also use .22 blank pistols and a 209 primer blank gun. there are many training scenerios where a loud blank is better utilized. that is why i'm trying to find loading data for 12ga blanks. if you have any reliable data it would be appreciated. there is also no need to use black powder. best regards.

good luck. personally i dont think youre gonna find it. as nunn said, most blanks are black powder or solid powder. and if you did, odds are it will be as much to make as it is to just buy. let us know! i mean seriously, a factory live round is only about 20-30 cents. reloads are even less. id just blast it into the ground or straight up![:)] 0 -
Try www.hodgdon.com i load pyrodex for use in training instead of black podwer its cleaner.also less pressures so use it in my old guns.tks hedge 0 -

okay... for your info i just made one that worked great with smokeless powder. it cost me $.07 to make. it was as loud as a factory popper, no mess of black powder and it is safer than shooting into a bush! thanks.
