i have a sport king with 6 1/2" barrel. my buddy has a flight-king 4" barrel chambered for .22 short. both are the early lever take-down type. he wants $35.00 for his barrel. My question is would it be practical to buy his barrel and have it rechambered to .22 LR and fit to my frame. or keep looking for a 4" sport king barrel and have it fit to my frame?[?] 0 -
Hello I don't know if HIGH STANDARD had the same rifleing twist for both their 22 short and 22 lr barrels but if they are different then the long rifle would not shoot very good groups in short barrel after rechambering 0 -
If the barrel is in factory original, very good condition or better, I would grab it. The price certainly seems fair.
Before you start trying to rechamber it. Put it on the auction. I believe the original High Standard .22 short barrels are much harder to come by then the L.R. barrels. Possibly you could either trade it, or sell it, to get a original Sport King barrel.

it would be impractical. first, youd be ruining a rare bbl and next, you be losing the button swedging that makes the bbl so accurate. keep looking. they arent that rare and you will find one with time. 0 -
"you be losing the button swedging that makes the bbl so accurate" wth, never heard of this, all barrels are chambered after rifling, deepening a .22 short chamber will not alter the rifling (except for the 1/8" to cut a new throat and extend the chamber). I did this to several back when you could buy new .22 short barrels from gun parts for $40, they shoot just as good as the regular l.r. barrels. I'm not suggesting you do this to the barrel in question, but it is possible and it will shoot well. 0 -
curious, did you remark your bbl's 22LR on the outside to keep from a future accident? reason i ask is too many times, people that have done just that resell the gun with the modified bbl and dont tell anyone, then, if its gets seperated someday, it can be put back on a real 22 short. owners have been known to chamber shorts into the LR bbl. not good practice.
even worse would be the day they find it to accept LR's and it gets shot with an alloy slide.
i say overall, not to do it.0
