Remington Rand 1911 45 advice needed

I recently obtained a VERY rough but complete "Property of United States" Remington Rand 1911 45 auto. The metal is pitted fairly bad but I'm sure it would work just fine.
I know there is no collectors value based on the poor condition and my question is what would you do with it? Have it restored? (I know still no collector value)Or leave it in such rough condition? Any advice and opinions would be appreciated.

  I would clean it up, make sure it is safe to shoot and fire away

  I'd put in a good USGI barrel & have the entire gun (except the barrel & springs) reparked by a gunsmith used to working on USGI guns. Hopefully it'll look close to MY Reparked Mixed Parts Mongrel shown below:

  My manganese phosphate job cost $125, & was done by Paul S. White in Gaithersburg, MD. Your's is going to need some buffing, so that will be an additional expense.
  
  I'd try to find someone local unless you have an FFL; shipping a handgun to someone by UPS/Fedex will cost $50-60 each way.
