shotgun misfeed question

I tried my Benelli 121 M1 for the first time in a bowling pin match; gun and loads worked great except that the last round would almost always fail to feed. I fixed it for the match by loading an extra round. But what is causing this problem? The last round stops feeding with the shell about 1" still in the tube. All other rounds functioned perfectly. Any ideas on what is causing this to happen?

    Sounds as if the mag spring is twisted or catching.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    I'll second the mag spring diagnosis, the last shell will have the least spring pressure on it.

    Thanks for the comments! Could it be a weak spring? Can I add a spacer about the size of a shell in the tube to compensate?

    The spacer might work, But I would suggest a new spring. Also check for little burrs where the spring might be hanging up on and stopping.

    It is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

    Stretch the magazine spring about two inches.

    You could get a better replacement spring from Wolff for probably $10, why waste your time tinkering with it?
