another colt auto
i have recently come across another model N, or at least i think thats what it is, the gun unlike any other model N ive seen , has a ramp front sight, it has the dates 1888, 1897, 1903, 1910, all roll marked along the left side of the slide, it has a diamond along with the apprpriate "VP" proof marks on the slide and frame, also has original "colt" hard rubber grips, there is no horse marking on the slide rear and above the slide lock safety, matter of fact there is no safety, there is a "5" on either side of the forward trigger guard, and the SN is 85XXX, anybody know what i might have found here?

Your pistol would be considered as a early production "Standard Version" Model 1908,i.e. rubber grips, 1910 date on slide, in all respects except the lack of manual safety. I have no explanation for that. All the M 1908 .25 Colts I have owned, and seen have had manual safetys.
The early FN produced Browning .25's,( Model 1906's ) viritually identical to the Colt, on the other hand didn't have manual safetys.
My only guess is that you MIGHT? have a Spanish or Chinese Knock-Off with spurious Colt Markings. The difference in quality is usually evident beteen the Colt and the Knock-Off's on close inspection.

i might imagine i did have a knockoff gun except for the hartford conn. rollmark on the slide, i havent seen a gun like this with a front sight in this SN range, all others being in the 400,xxx range, and i cannt explain the absencs of a safety either, nor the presence of the ramp front sight 0 -

If your convinced it's an authentic Colt. Perhaps you should consider contacting Colt, and see if you could obtail a letter, it MIGHT? explain the anomalies.0
