load recomendation savage .220 swift
I have a savage model 112bvss-s i was just wondering what loads have worked best for you guys... i'm curently using 37.1gr of IMR4064 with a cci200 primer and 55 grain pointed sp. it seems to shoot pretty well. also i've been having trouble cracking the necks of the cases. the case length is correct (unless for some reason savage has a special length thats a little shorter than normal?) i'm using winchester brass and have tried different lotts but have had trouble with each one. any sugestions?

my all time favorite is 39/4064/52hp. Its fast an accurate and the primer type makes no difference. Ive never had split necks. Try neck sizing your brass after once firing. Winchester brass is tough stuff. I would suspect your fl die may be overworking the necks. 0 -
[:0] 39gr. of 4064? that must be right on the edge between safe and unsafe lol. what kind of fps are you getting with that load? pressure?, also you arent having trouble with the hp seperating in midflight pushing it that fast? thanks for the info 0 -

to rangemaster: this is the maximum load from my 1979 sierra load manual. it hits 4000 fps-and you are right-once in awhile I get "vapor trails". Cases last a long time with an occasional loose primer pocket to toss. Rifle is a custom single shot mauser action and a 26" shilen barrel. 0 -
RL15 is a good powder for the 220 Swift behind a 52 bullet.
Did you check the actual chamber length or just got it from a book.
The factory chamber lenghts vary a lot from one to the other.
39 gr of 4064 is to darn hot in my opinion. The older manuals left a lot to be desired, and thats why they have been changed.
