I found a gun..What do I do.
I just got finished moving in to a partly furnished house. After moving all day I decide to take a break. I sat on the couch and found a lump under the cusion. When I looked it was a [?]Armory V10 Ultra Compact cal .45, with no magazine or bullets. I am not sure what to do with it. I was thinking of pawning it at a local pawn shop. But I want to be sure what to do first. I did go to a police data bank and checked the serial number and it came up blank. Just curious. Thanks for you help.

No really, you should probable check with the landlord, or previous renters. That is a really nice gun, I assume you mean Springfield Armory v-10.
Someone will miss that gun real soon. If it is not stolen, they will be back for it.

What police data bank did you go to? Let us in on the secret? As far as I know the NCIC data isn't available on a casual basis to non law enforcement folks. If your in law enforcement, or you had a LEO access the NCIC you SHOULD already know the answer to the question you asked us.

Rufe, some depts will do a stolen gun inquiry for you. I've had a few private party purchases doublechecked that way

1) call the local cops and find out posession laws in your town.
2) Report the firearm as found and ask for a stolen gun search.
3) Comply with law enforcement requests, make sure you get photos and a receipt if they want to take it.
4) place a lost and found add in the paper.
5) Wait the required time, if it is yours to keep, list it on the GB auction to sell.
Local Pawn shops are not noted for giving great prices for good guns.0 -
Personally, I would get hold of the previous renter and tell him I found a gun and where I found it. If he could identify it then I would give it to him. That's what I would want him to do unto me.
Another consideration: when the rightful owner misses it and can't recall where he put it, he will likely consider it stolen and report it. Then someday, that could come back to haunt you.
The way I look at it, just because someone loses something and I find it don't make it not theirs. Of course I don't see eye-to-eye with some people either.
Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword obviously never encountered automatic weapons.

I agree with 1armbandit. I would try and find the previous owner/renter to see if they could prove that it was theirs. If it was I would return it to them. If you can't find them, I would do as bpost1958 suggested and contact the local police. Just make sure to get a receipt so that you can claim it if no one comes forward in the required time. Just because it shows up clear now, dosen't mean that someday the owner won't report it as stolen. I sure wouldn't want to find out the hard way, if I went to sell it down the road and it has been reported as stolen. 0 -
All the above,,I surely couldn't leave that kind of gun behind, it would miss me. My guess it is the previous owner since had no mag in it. Probably his house gun,,,but how do you take the mag and not the gun,,,nambu 0 -
Hey, I thinkl I left that at the last house I moved out of. If you give me the address and serial number of the gun, I can tell you were I once lived and what the serial number is.
