info wanted
I have recently obtained ownership of a new gun,new to me that is.It is a 22 cal pump action.It has stamped on the barrel "Fabrique Nationale D'Armes De Guerre Herstal Belgique" and under that it has "Browning's Patent Depose".Some other markings on it are 22L,a stick like figure with a tail over the letters PV,an R, a *,a C and a crown like symbol with the letters C or E(not sure)and a LG.Underneath it has a four digit number 9623 this number is also inside the trigger mechanism area.Any clues as to the history of this gun would be appreciated.Also an estimated value would also be appreciated for insurance purposes.Thank you.

It's a version of the John Browning designed Winchester slide action .22's, made in Belgium by Fabrique National. My reference says that they were made for some 50 years over there, until the 1970's.
Value of course would depend on condition and if it's factory original. There quite uncommon here in the U.S., the two largest pricing guides don't even reference them. Being your from Canada circumstances and/or value might be quite different.

I don't know what Turnip wagon you just fell off of, but the Winchester Slide Action .22's I referenced in my post are rifles. Perhaps in the Great White North their considered pistols, trust me south of the border there rifles.0 -

rufe-snow is correct about the rifle. And how in the world can some one get a Luger mixed up with a winchester slide action 22? Must not have seen a luger before. Keep up the good work rufe-snow.

We need to be patient with newbies. It's easy for someone new to the gun scene to get a wrong or mistaken impression for something that we correctly say or describe. I once made a mistake -- the time I thought I was wrong and wasn't.
