Scope movement is the rings...HELP!
I have a 18" Encore barrel in 300 Winchester Mag.
I just put Burris Signature rings on it and I can't keep the scope from moving. I had B-Square rings on it first and it bent the screws holding the rings to the base! The signature rings are stout on the base but the scope slid 1/2 inch after firing 11 rounds. The scope is a Pentax 3X9, I have some burris 1.5X6X signature scopes, should I try one? I am not sure there is enough room for a third ring.
Recoil is interesting, but not all that bad.
Anybody have any words of wisdom to hold the scope in the rings?

Have you thought of putting a muzzle brake on that thing if you haven't already? That'd probably help the scope out a lot.
But anyhoo...I had a similar problem on a rifle once, I took a few thin cut strips of masking tape and put them around the scope where the rings went around to give it a little extra traction. It seemed to work out ok for me.

Have you ensured the rings are aligned ? If not this will reduce the contact area with the scope. Also, if you lap the rings it will ensure 100% contact. You would be surprised how little of the scope and ring actually touch if this is not done. I've also used the double side tape to add a little extra purchase and a little stick. Alignment and lapping is key though. I do think something to take a little off the recoil would certainly help. Will definetly increase the scope life.

You might also lap the rings before mounting the scope. Should always be done to insure good contact and to insure the holes in the rings are perfectly aligned. 0 -
Burris Signature rings use inserts to assure alignment. There is nothing to lap and the design provides solid contact and perfect alignment every time. I put the burris scope on it has a mat finish and may hold better.
A muzzle brake might be a good idea!! But then the blast would tear sod out of the yard, this thing BARKS when the trigger is pulled.0 -

I had the same issue on my 30.06, I got Millet rings on it and the scope kept moving forward under recoil. The problem on mine was that the rings had gotten a little loose and there was oil under the rings from wiping everything down with a oilcloth. You might look at a three or four ring setup with a cannon like that too. I wouldn't put a two ring setup on something I know is going to kick that bad[:0]

Try some Leupold PRW rings, or even better, a set of Warne vertical rings. If that won't hold it, it can't be held.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Fixed a similar problem by using steel rings, lapping them and using some removeable (blue) loc-tite, not too much- just moisten the inside of the rings. I sold the Contender with the scope still mounted to a co-worker. He said it has never moved.

The plastic inserts on the signature rings are fine for light recoil rifles, but I don't see them doing the job on yours. I would go with Talley or Warne vertical rings. And lap them. 0 -
the old stand-by is powdered rosin, brownells sells this. just dust all contact surfaces (scope and rings). 0
