All around gun?
My gun club has decided to build a state of the art pistol range. I'm looking for a gun that can be used for practical handgun competition (ie high capacity mags) and also be used for bullseye shooting. I'm not talking out of the box 3" 50 yard groups, but something that can shoot halfway decent and be modified over time to get 3" or better groups. Also I'd like it in 9MM. Any suggestions? TIA...Joe Oh yeah, under $1000.00 to start. Also thought about getting a S&W 52 and a CZ75B instead of one gun...

Look at the Witness line (cz). Good gun for the money. They are made by European American Arms. Just look up their website. 0 -
The S&W M52 is an excellent gun for bullseye shooting. Nice weight, balance and super trigger pull. I don't think they are made anymore and probably are collectors items by now. And, it only holds 5 rounds in the mag. And if you are shooting bulseye you need a .22, centerfire, and .45acp for the complete course of fire. Centerfire is any centerfire handgun so most use a .45 since you then only need 2 guns. The Colt (or any clone) .45 acp would be an excellent choice for bullseye AND practical pistol shooting.

I agree with that post. Get yourself a nice 1911 type and then a Kart (or other brand) 22 conversion kit. This would be a great platform and in reality you are shooting the same gun so from one discipline to the next, you have a very consistant feel. I also agree that the Witness line might be a good plact to start as well...great value!

Can you upgrade a Witness ?

I would buy a CZ-75 with adjustable sights ($500) in 9 if you want to play, or 40 if you want to shoot IPSC or USPSA, and a kadet 22 adapter kit($200). My last CZ75 came with a factory test target of 30MM at 25 meters Works out to 2.2" or so at 50 yards.

Yes you can upgrade the witness. check their website and you will see all the bells and whistles they have to offer as well as caliber changes, the whole nine yards. 0 -
The Witness was "the" gun to have and upgrade for IPSC prior to the wide body 1911's coming onto the scene.

btw...9mm rounds are less expensive than 45 rounds. practical eats a lot of ammo. 9mm is a better choice. have fun!

I would recommend you go bigger than 9mm. I was just out shooting my Glock 17 at combact shoot agains steel knock down targets. I swear I was double tapping and tripple tapping those targets and they still weren't going down.
I think the creme de la creme of hicap 1911 is Para Ordnance. I don't own one personally but I see enough top competitors that shoot the crap out them.

when you say 9mm i would look at the competition line of EAA Witness. My 2 cents [8D]
