I have this rifle that is looking for a new home. I see some people selling them for 1000's and others selling them for 100's. What's the big hoopla that makes them worth 1000's.

Remington made over 1,000,000 Bolt-Action 03 Springfield Rifles during W W II.
The present value is based on varation, i.e. 03A1, 03A4, physical condition and if factory original.
As you can see there's many variables, that affect the present fair market value of Remington made 03 Springfields

Generally speaking, the more orginal and rare the variant of the rifle the more the value. Documentation that proves a history also adds value.
To determine the value on A sporterized Remington 1903 or 1903A3 requires the serial number, what was done to sporarize it, holes drilled, stock, barrel and optics.

well so far I can tell you that it has weaver mounts and rings and the previous owner fixed the bolt lever (is that what it is called?) so that it won't wack into the scope. it looks like a different barrel than the others I have seen and of course a different stock. PS. how do I get a picture in here?[:I] 0 -

Unfortunately from your description it has been sportized to a point, that it wouldn't have any value to a collector of military rifles. It's value would be based solely on it's use as a hunting rifle.
In case you want to post some pictures here are some instructions.
First thing you need is a site to host your picture. What I mean by that is that you will need to upload your pictures to a web site that will host(display) them for you. You should not use your hard drive to host pictures for safety sake. Use www.photobucket.com to host your pictures.
After you have uploaded your pictures to the site that will host them for you(per their directions), the next thing you will want to do is go to the picture hosting site and view the picture. While you are viewing the picture, right click on it and you'll see another window that should pop up, now click on "properties" and copy the picture URL. If you know how to "copy & paste" this will be a piece of cake.
Now that you have the picture URL and your ready to post your picture. Do the following, use the following code except take out the "*" asterisk. The "*" asterisk is used here only so you can see the code. In other words if I posted the code without the "*" asterisk you will see a picture instead of the code. Anyways use this code to post your picture..
