Blackhawk, .30cal

Does anyone have one of these Ruger Blackhawk chambered for the 30 cal carbine? What are the charistics when shot? What kind of kick,accuracy,etc? Interested in buying one for the range and small varmits.Thanks, bob

    Had one many years ago. Shot very good. Just don't
    fire it without good ear protection. High pitched crack.

    AT 'dusk', just when it's getting dark, they will put out about a 2 foot diameter ball of fire!! Awesome.........................

    I have owned a BN31 Ruger Blackhawk for many years and find it very good to shoot(I have rubber grips on mine). Now that the Australian government has outlawed semi-auto's here I can get 30m1 ammo quite cheap and shoot it regularly. I was told when I purchased it that it would be very inaccurate because of the one in sixteen twist, but this could be further from the truth because I find it accurate enough to shoot target with.

    I think there are a lot of better choices.

    The Blackhawk is not a lot of fun to shoot without modifications. I find the trigger too narrow, too much creep, & grips not comfortable.

    With full .30 cal carb loads, muzzle energy is equivalent to the .357 mag; I'm not sure how many small varmints I'd shoot with a .357 mag.

    I sold a .30 cal Blackhawk a few years ago, & had a difficult time doing it; I practically had to give it away, & it was LNIB. They are much more difficult to sell than any other caliber Blackhawk.

    I use my Blackhawk in .30m1 for silhouette in the Production Big Bore class, it's very accurate, kicks very little, and has enough energy at 200yds to topple the rams. I sometimes switch loads depending on which string of fire I'm shooting; the 85gr short jackets are great for chickens through pigs, the 100gr are fine for the turkeys, and I use Rem. 125gr for the rams. Factory loads from Aguila aren't too bad, the Armscor and A-Merc sometimes stick in the chambers.
    I never had any problems with this gun, the trigger breaks at a clean 1.5lbs, with no creep or stacking, the sights are adjustable, and the blueing is gorgeous!
    Wish I'd known nmyers before he got rid of his!
    BTW, my AMTIII can't hold a candle to my Blackhawk for accuracy, and it has substantial recoil.

    I have a .30 cal Blackhawk and really enjoy shooting it.
    Recoil isn't that bad and I find it to be pretty friggin' accurate
    too.
    The previous owner lived somewhere in Alaska,and the gun does show some wear from being carried a lot.That's kind of cool to think where this pistol has been and what it's been used for.

    I put a Super Blackhawk hammer and an older serrated trigger on mine.It makes a nice difference,especially when you know your finger won't slip off when firing because of the grooves on that trigger.

    I think you'll like owning and shooting one.Good Luck & Good Shooting!!!!

    I noticed awhile back that USFA makes a reproduction Colt SAA in .30Carbine. Always wondered what it would be like. Probably about the same as the Blackhawk.
