7mm/,300 for varmints?

what do u guys think about the 7mm rem mag, or a 300 win mag for varmints? prolly a 150 grain bullet? also long range.

    Hey,
    I was always told that I could never use my .300 for varmint hunting with good results using lighter bullets. After trying a few different loads, I have found my ultimate varmint load for my .300 (125 Gr. Speer TNT loaded with 61 Gr. of IMR3031 powder. This is mainly a prarie dog load, but i am sure that the lighter ballistic tips will perform well too.

    YOU CERTAINLY CAN SHOOT VARMITS WITH A 7MM OR .300 BUT THEY ARE A BIT 'MUCH'. PRARRIE DOG RIFLES CAN GO THROUGH 500/100O RDS A DAY AND AT THAT RATE WOULD BURN UP A 7MM OR .300 BARREL IN LESS THAN A WEEKS SHOOTING. NOT TO MENTION THE 'WEAR AND TEAR' ON YOUR SHOULDER, EVEN .243 CAN GET TRYING AT THAT RATE.

    waste of gunpowder, and not a shoulder friendly experience. A 150gr pill is too much to be explosive on varmints, and IMHO too light and too low in BC to be the best pill for long range shooting.

    get a varmint rifle for varmints, even a 222 or 223. Use the 162-180gr pills in the 7mm and the 190-210gr pills in the 30 cal for long range work.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    well i already have my action that im building it on, its a mauser 98. thats a long action. if i had the 96 or a short action i would get it in one of those many short action rounds.

    The 7mm Rem Mag would be very good for long range varminting but you will need to jack the bullet weight up to 162 grain minimum, and a 175 grain bullet would be the best choice to do a good job at distances over 600 yards.
    You probably won't shoot it a lot so don't worry about burning it up to soon.
    It may not be the best prairie dog rifle, but I'll bet that the Western Rockchuck won't care for it much ...


    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.
