uncommon rifle?

Saw a savage lever action in .22 high power. Don't know what model but it had the brass cartidge counter on the left side. I can buy this rifle but don't know how common or value. About 80% plus overall. As always thanks for your replies.

    Model 99 Savage, without seeing it, and not knowing what variation and year of production, my WAG is about $700. The cartridge has been out of production from about 1930. It was a common caliber in Europe under the designation of 5.6x52R. Norma and DWS still load for it I believe.

    Sellier & Bellot also load for it. In fact I found ammo here on GB at a reasonable rate. If it's a model E solid frame, trapp99's figure is a little on the high side. If it is the older model and a takedown frame, $700 is pretty much going rate, give or take for bore condition and overall shape. The Savage 99's have been slowly gaining value and also vary by area of the country you look in.

    Just checked the J&G Sales website and they have the S&B ammo for it for $7.25/20rds

    is the cartridge counter unique to the 22 hi power or did all savage 99's have that feature?

    All of the early 99s had a counter. For some reason, most of the Hi Powers were takedown models.

    There's a window in the left side of the reciever so you can see the counter numbers on the rotary part of the magazine. Every time a shell goes in or out, it rotates to show whats still in the mag.
