Colt SAA Peacemaker 22

Hello, could you give me an approximate price for a Colt SAA Peacemaker .22cal 4.3/8" barrel with both cylinders and original box in 99% condition. I have seen several of these as described and they range from $550. to $850. why the big price range?
Also some list this particular gun as "rare" is it?

    Please check the SOLD auctions. I think you will find that your top number is a little high. Great guns and hard to find in this condition. Good luck.

    Condition, having the box and papers and BOTH cylinders will tend to drive up the price, but as said above not "trhat high" ,at least around here. Last OGCA show ,they were in the $600-650 range as to what you described.
    Yes, there is a 'premium' on the 'short' 4.4" barrel also. Here's a couple ,but only single cylinders. 4.4 Peacemaker and the New Frontier Scout 6"..............

    They made about 30,000 Peacemakers with the 4.4" barrel in both single and dual cylinder models combined. In comparison, there were 47,000 made with the 6" barrel and only 14,500 made with the 7 1/2" Buntline barrel. The most scarce are the true 4 3/4" barrel guns that were only made for less than a year at the start .... 7,236 total made in both single and dual cylinder. You will see many advertised as 4 3/4" barrels, Colt even continued to mark the boxes that way for a while after the switch to the 4.4" in both the Peacemaker and New Frontier, most are in reality the 4.4" model. If the barrel is about even with the ejector rod tube it's a 4.4", has to extend past it near 1/2" to be a 4 3/4" barrel model.

    The New Frontier model in the true 4 3/4" barrel is even more scarce than the Peacemakers with only 2,383 made in single cylinder and 1,956 made in the dual cylinder model. Either model in the 4 3/4" barrel isn't seen too often. These will be the most expensive and will approach your high figure if you can find one NIB or near. They will all be in the earliest 2 piece tan box( no styrofoam insert), and both the cylinders will be fluted. All of the dual cylinder models shipped in the early type box would have originally had the mag cylinder packaged in a small yellow and white box. Any barrel length in the earlier style box generally brings about a $50 premium over the same gun in the later styrofoam insert type ... maybe up to a $75 premium if in the early box with both the cylinders fluted. Just a few numbers so you can decide what's actually scarce in these models. Oh ... and there are also the full blue second issue New Frontiers that are actually the most scarce group of all .... a little over 6,000 made in all three barrel lengths combined.
