Floor lamp or proud wall hanger

I have an old clunker that I bought to make a floor lamp out of, but am now wondering about. It's a 4 1/2' bolt action rifle with a fixed magazine. The muzzle diameter is about 10 mm with a blade front sight and a bayonet stud on the right side. The long steel ramrod slides under the two steel barrel bands. The adjustable rear leaf sight locks at markings from "6" to "20" and has "273" stamped on it. Near where the barrel attaches to the receiver, the barrel has "NY.1941" on the right and "Torre, Annunziata, 1877" on the left. On the top of the barrel two small crests or proof marks. The right of the stock has "UYI, 1941" stamped into the wood. The fancy trigger guard swoops down at the rear so the shooter can rest another finger or two on it. The safety is a ring on the receiver, which can be rotated.

Any ideas. Is it worth more than a floor lamp? Did I waste $60? (No digital camera)

    I think you have a Vetterli Italian model 1890 in 10.35mm

    I'm guessing value of a functional one is around $165.00, but I could be way off base. Can anybody else here substantiate my guess?

    From your description it appears your rifle is a Italian Vetterli Model 1870/87/15 Army Rifle. It was originally manufactured as a single shot Black Powder Rifle in 1877 at the Fabbrica d'Armi di Torre Annunziata, Arsenal. After 1887 it was fitted with a (4) shot magazine.
    During the First World War it was converted to take the then standard Italian Military Cartridge, 6.5 x 52mm.

    These rifles were apparently used as late as W W II, per the markings on yours.

    The one on the auction appears to be arsenal original condition, ( circa First World War ). There was one for sale locally that had been commercially refinished, that didn't sell for $200. If yours is original, it should be worth what the one on the auction goes for.
