Paper 22 Shotshell
I have what looks like a miniature shotgun shell in 22. It is red paper hull with a brass/copper high base. The primer has an acorn in the middle of it. No other marking that I can see. What is it and when was it made? Thanks!

sounds like around the 40's or 50's to me. popular ammo for rat shot or garden varmits or even the targo craze of that era. 0 -

The acorn headstamp designates German manufacture, originally by RWS, which is now part of Dynamit Nobel (just as Remington continues to use a "U" headstamp - from UMC, which they bought out circa 1915 - on their RF ammo). There are a *host* of RF ball / shot loadings in 4mm to 9mm as well as .22 for "parlor" guns and various European RF firearms. This is a ways outside my speciality, but my WAG is that yours dates to 1900 - 1938 . . . perhaps a little bit earlier. If you measure it, you may find it is a true 5mm rather than .22 caliber.
Y, heavyiron has a good shot below. I think this particular one is a 6mm?

Perhaps something along this line (although it won't match the specimen in the photo)?
This is a type of generic Flobert. They also come in lead ball loadings. As Iconoclast has already stated, there are a variety of these small shotshells from Europe. The shot size is sometimes referred to as "dust" in these cartridges.
The one in the center happens to be a 7mm Flobert, fairly old, no headstamp, and is flanked by a 22 short and 22 LR. There are several others in my collection that range from 5mm to 9mm and have very colorful and patterned paper hulls.

I also have some of the bulleted ammo as seen in the pictures on the attached thread.
My shot cartridge is actually 20 caliber (5mm) and is just a tad longer than a 22 magnum cartridge. Thanks all.

5mm would most likely be the Winchester-Western 20-cal Wingo cartridge. These were made in the 70's.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
Due to the headstamp I think the German manufactureer is correct. I think I have seen the Wingo and it was different than this cartridge.

i pulled out some of my paper hulls and stuck a brass cork shotshell too for comparison. does yours look anything like one of these?

Mine looks like the 9mm, but it is a 5mm in size and the length of a 22 mag with an acorn standing out on the primer.
P.S. i have a box of Winchester 9mm shotshell, complete too.
