HOWS MY WIN MOD-70 HV MADE
OK GUYS
Since my bubble has been burst on the 40x, tell me how my
WIN MOD-70 HEAVY VARMINT is put together. Mine has a stainless
steel colored barrel and a black fiberglass stock. i bought it
used in 2003. Was told it belonged to an ex policeman. It had a
Harris bipod on it. Also a Leupold Vari X III 3.5-10x50 scope.
A black rubber like cheek-piece had been added.This is app 1/8 inch
thick. I have no idea how many times it has been fired. I personally
have shot it app 1500 rounds. From looking down the barrel the lands
the lands and grooves seem pretty sharp. i only use hoppes 9 to clean
it with and cotton patches. then a little WD 40. I heard about all
different ways to clean steel so I did a little cleaning of my own.
I got a small flat piece of stainless steel and a flat one of regular
steel. A guy gave me some bore cleaner that smells like ammonia and
a can of bore paste. I put some of each on a rag and rubbed them on
both steels. The paste scratched both metals and the cleaners stained
them. i then tried a bronze and stainless brush. That scratched the
metal samples even more. thats when I decided to stick with hoppes 9
and cotton patches.

Unless you were using ordinance grade steels at comparable hardness to what would normally be used for rifle barrels to conduct your 'testing', I don't think you can use your results as a reliable indication of what is actually taking place inside a real barrel.
Typically, blued barrels are made from 4100 Series chrome-moly steels with 400 Series being most common for stainless.

how well does it shoot? What group sizes do you get? Number 9 Is not a real good Copper solvent. What loads are you shooting? 0 -
do yourself a favor and buy some wipe-out bore foam.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
