Model 1896 krag

I need some help in identifying a Krag. I have a "model 1996" with a 23,1/2 inch barrel. The stock fits to with in about 1,1/2 of the end of the barrel. The front blade is similiar but not one of the typical styles I've seen on the auction. The rear site appears correct. If the barrel was cut, they did a great job on it. There is a proper looking crown.
-Were their any Krags with a 23 1/2 barrel? Any help or other thoughts are greatly appreciated.

    When the 03 Springfield in 30-06 was adopted, the Krags were sold to the members of the NRA very inexpensively. Over many years till they ran out of Krags, many were sporterized. Yours might be one of those Krags.

    Standard U.S. Krag barrel lengths were 22" for the carbine and 30" on the rifle. There was one experimental run of 100 Krags with 26" barrels - an experiment at using one weapon for infantry and cavalry. No other barrel length is standard.
