star bm or helwan

looking for a inexpensive 9mm.under $200,for a guy too start out with.what do you guys think?star bm,helawan ?any others you know of?thanks don

    STar for sure! Mty friend bought a Helwan new and it broke the locking block after 75rds. The part was 60 bucks to fix it. Stars are usually in less desirable cosmetic condition but are far superior to the helwan. A new helwan is an ugly gun anyways. The machining and finish is rough. Stick to a Star. They are realible and stought.

    The spare magazines for the Star BM are expensive. Plus the Stars being offered work fine, but show quite a bit of external wear (those I have seen).

    Best advice I would give is to look at the 9mm Luger CZ52's being offered by Sarco for $169.00, excellent condition. These are rare in 9mm, most are chambered for the 7.62X25. Good collector's interest is sure to stay with it. Yet another option would be to pick up one of the less expensive versions in 7.62 and buy a spare 9mm barrel for it. Or, buy the 9mm (for collector's value) and pick up the 7.62 barrel if you want.

    Price would end up around $200 or a little better, but would be well worth the little extra.
