.22 caliber accuracy of short vs. Long Rifle
Referance Winchester 1890 caliber .22 short. A common practice was to rean out the chamber of a Winchester .22 short barrel to accomadate the Long Rifle cartridge and use a carrier from a Winchester 1906 rifle. On such a rifle bore how would this effect the accuracy of such a rifle using short cartridges in an extended chamber (reamed out chamber) of otherwise very good bore. Hello if I understand you correctly you now want to go back and shoot 22 shorts in a barrel that had the chamber reamed . This shoud not affect accuracy in your type of rifle .If it was a smallbore match rifle it might show up but most 22 short if used in matches "rapid fire pistol matches" ARE AT LARGE TARGETS AND SHORT RANGES 25 yards. Many rifles are marked 22 short long or long rifle . 0 -
winchester determined that the long rifle required a faster twist. a 22 short fired from a 16" twist wont make the grade. and vice versa for the long rifle fired out of a slow twist. winchester engineers spent lots of time on this subject and lots of pages have been written about it. 0 -

It won't have much effect on the accuracy of a Model 1890... but don't forget to swap out the carrier again though.

Some rifles chambered for .22 short used a 1 in 24" twist and most .22 Long Rifles use a 1 in 16" twist. Unless shooting in a serious match you probably won't notice much difference in accuracy. If using .22 shorts in a barrel originally for shorts there should be no effect from the longer chamber.

my experience with 1890 rechamber jobs: long rifles often "keyhole" when fired out of 22 short barrels with the slow twist. 0
