Need Pedersoli Sharps Schuetzen info
I'm trying to find out some info about this model Sharps. So far all I have found is a photo of the rifle. Does anyone know when it was made, is it still being made, is it a limited production rifle, etc? Even the Pedersoli website doesn't have anything. TIA. Emery

Mazo, My guess is what you are looking for is the Axtell Sharps. Expensive but extremely well made. I had a chance to meet and talk with them at the Reno gunshow this spring and they had one at their table. It's called the Overbaugh Schuetzen. http://www.riflesmith.com/rifles.html

Trap, thanks for the suggestion, but no, this is a Pedersoli. You can look it up on Dixie's site www.dixiegunworks.com . That is the only place I have seen it listed. Actually, I have one at my FFL that I just purchased here, but won't be able to pick it up until late this month. Just thought it would be nice to have some history on it before I have it in my hands. Emery

I didn't know they made one either until I saw it up for auction. Did a search and came up with Dixie's site. They list a Schuetzen '74 like mine in 45-70; mine is 45-90. Maybe they do offer a 40-65, I have a Pedersoli '74 Sharps and a Browning 1885 BPCR, both in 40-65 and really like them! Brass is easy to make, plentiful, and fairly inexpensive. Emery

I have a vintage 74 Sharps Business Rifle that was originally chambered in .45/75 Sharps. Basic same as a 45/70 but the bore was sized .451 instead of .457-.458. Packed the barrel in grease and rebarelled to 45/70. I ran across a company at the Reno show that is loading alot of the old .40,.45, and .50 Cal cartridges for match shooting and the price was about the same for commercial 45/70. If I can find their card I'll post the info for you.

I saw a Pedersoli Sharp model 1874, 45-70 down at the local gun shop today , it was in unfired condition , price was around 900 , did'nt think that was to bad ,, tag said it was made in Italy and cat # was 8125 0 -
Yeah, I think for the money that Pedersoli offers good value. My 40-65 is one of the first ones imported; I ordered from Dixie when they first offered them, didn't have any in stock yet and had to wait a year almost to the day before I got it. The 45-70s were the first to arrive after only 3-4 months. I had heard rumors to the effect that they were having a problem with the proof house or cost of proofing? The info with the gun said to use black powder only while the identical model in 45-70 is OK with smokeless or black. ?? Emery
