MPI stocks

Anyone have any experience with the MPI fiberglass stocks?

All the McMillan fans seem to think they are junk!??

    In all fairness to Doc, the owner of MPI, there are a couple of good points about his stocks.

    - They are reasonbly priced.

    - He has harder to find inlets for rifles that the other manufacturers don't carry.

    - The inlets are slightly oversized and definitely 'drop-in'. Good for bedding.

    Now, with that out of the way, here are a couple of things that are not so good about his stocks.

    - They are rough and require a good bit of work to finish.

    - The interior material is foam which is not as rigid as most of us would like.

    - You need to bed the entire rifle stock not just the action area.

    - Time consuming due to the amount of finish work.

    None of this is being mean to Doc, it's just the way things are. The part about cost amounts to being able to get 2 of MPI's stocks to 1 of the McMillan's. But you will spend time or pay for someone to spend time finishing the MPI's.

    I've used them several times and the projects worked out fine. I've also used several other brands and they work just as good if not just a bit better than the MPI.

    The two biggest drawnback to the Mcmillan's right now are the waiting time to receive a stock (16 wks.) and the cost. The newest price increase is too much for a lot of folks to spend on a stock.
