+P and +P+ in a S&W J Frame?

    The new Speer 135 gr Gold Dot .38 spl +P load is designed specifically for the S&W J-frame.

    A limited amount of +P is ok. Use +P+ only in a medium or large frame Smith. The newer Smiths that take 357 are the exception. Frankly there is almost no advantage to using +P+. The most effective street proven 38 round is the 158gr +P lead hollowpoint.

    It's ok to use +P but you can also take the life out of your gun by shooting +P to much. I carry my gun with +P's but i don't shoot it regulary with +P's I have only shot it enough to know how it shoots with +P's. And it amazed me. I hit a 6 inch target every round I fired (6 shots) free handed with iron sights. I did that with my Tuarus 84. I thought it was pretty good.

    There is no such thing as +P+ ammo. That is only a marketing ploy. On the other hand, +P ammo is real and usualy ignites with about 10% greater pressure over regular SAAMI classed ammo. If a gun is not rated for +P ammo, then do not shoot it.
