Colt model of 1911 orig. grips?

I have been fortunate enough to come across an original Colt 1911. The serial # indicates that it was made during WW1 s/n 147xxx and except for the finish (it was refinished to parkerized not the orig blue) the pistol is correct.................. All but the grips. The gun overall is about 90 - 95%.
Does anyone know where I can find the original grips for this fine piece? Any info or leads would be appreciated. The ugly rubber grips just don't do her justice. Thanking all of you in advance for your knowledege bases. db

    Being your pistol has been refinished, I wouldn't be spending a lot of money on original grips.

    Brownells www.brownell.com has a number of suppliers in their catalog who make the early Colt type of double diamond grips for reasonable prices.

    The marks indicate finish was applied at the Colt Armory, so I am assuming that the pistol is all orig. That is why I want to keep it all orig. if possible. Thanks db

    There is no "Colt Armory". If the gun has the initials of a US military armory, then USGI brown plastic grips (several manufacturers) would be appropriate.

    If your "original" M1911 is parkerized, it was probably arsenal refinished during WWII. In that case the correct grips would be the bakelite grips (as shown above).

    Brownell's offers 'mahogany' wood grips with the double diamond checker pattern very similar to the old original 1911. I bought them recently as I recall at around $18. They are a rather reddish wood, not actually mahogany which I think is Philippine 'Narra' wood much like red teak. Good value, good price. I stained them a bit brown to look more like walnut. Hope this helps.

    Correct, they did not have plastic back then bakelite is a brittle forerunner of plastic

    What you need are "keys grips", they made two versions, they are the same except for a ring around the grip screw, look them up on fleabay you can get lucky sometimes, but beware of imitation, bakelite also glows in blacklight
