Ruger Blackhawk Convertible
I have a New Model Ruger Blackhawk convertible in 45LC/45ACP, 7 1/2 inch barrel, serial 47-510xx. The original box lists a catalog number of BN-45X, model number of 0456. The Fjestad Blue Book of Gun values shows that the convertible model was not available with a 7 1/2 inch barrel, only 4 5/8, 5 1/2, and 6 1/2. The book also notes that during certain years of manufacture, Ruger's production model changes created some rare variations. Would this be one of them, or was the 7 1/2 inch barrel readily available. The gun is 98% w/original box. Thanks in advance.

The first 45 blackhawk 7-1/2 convertible was manufactured in 1971. About 5760 Old Models '71- Jan.'73. S/N 45-00111 - 45-23030.
The first New Model 45s came out in 1973 starting with S/N 46-00001. The first NM 45 convertibles started at about S/N 46-05874.
The 45 convertibles were made in cat. #s:
"44"== 45 cal with 4-5/8" barrel
"455"= 45 cal with 5-1/2" barrel
"45"== 45 cal with 7-1/2" barrel
"X" = with extra 45 ACP cylinder
"BN" =blue blackhawk new model
"KBN"=stainless blackhawk new model
Your BN-45X S/N 47-510xx made in 1992 would fall into the post "Liberty" model era with "Warning" rollmark on the barrel. This era, starting at about s/n 46-42174 - 47-60376 early 1978 - 1994 when this model was discontinued. Quantities; BN-44X = many thousands; BN455X = a few thousand; BN45X = several thousand; KBN-44X = 355 guns; KBN-455X = 77 guns; KBN-45X = 320 guns.
Ruger never offered a 45 blackhawk in 6-1/2" barrel. I think blue book is a mis-print for 7-1/2.0
