Single action 9mm for plinking?
I'm looking for a SA 9mm for casual plinking. Not home defense, not CCW, not match... Just a little fun with cheap ammo.
The question is: what are my options? So far I know of the Star B/BM line and that's about it. The Sig 210 is a LITTLE bit over my budget. I considered a High Power knock off but I hear the trigger is not that great.
Any suggestions from the experts?

Beretta 1951 is a single action 9mm. Can be had in pretty good shape for alot less than a sig 210 but a bit more than a star. You can take your chance with a Beretta 1951 knockoff like the helwan but the quality is hit or miss. Some peoples work great but my friend got one and it busted the locking block after 75rnds. 0 -
I looked at a cheap one not to long ago that was a rip off of a browning hi-power.It was a FEG PJK-9HP and I fired it at the range and it was pretty accurate.No doubt I could have plinked with it.It being single action was why I didnt buy it actually. 0 -
Only one thing comes to mind Arcus 94. Its a Bulgarian hi power clone and is very well made(from what I read the mod. 98 was the Spanish military's service at some point). Mine is pretty accurate, and I dont feel that the trigger is bad. The frame is milled allumin alloy, and the slide is forged steel, fit to finish is pretty tight. If you end up not liking the trigger, you can disable the mag discconect feature. I've never had a failure of any kind with this gun.

Check out the 1911 style by Springfield Armory. Good article about it in the most recent GUNS magazine. (July) Also, Kimber made one, but it was a limited production run.

Quality single/double action are the Ruger P85,89,90,ect and the Magnum Research baby eagle or CZ 75. Both very well made, CZ has a little nicer grip, in my opinion, both can be found new/used at reasonable price. The Ruger and CZ/Magnum Res. are both very accurate

Another good looking Hi-Power rip off looks like the Charles Daly HP.I see one on GunBroker here for $370.00 and its made in the U.S.A and it looks pretty good. 0 -

Get the EAA all steel witness in 9mm. Its a CZ clone and for $300 brand new (or less used), you can't go wrong.
Yes, its double action, and you specified single action, but unlike a lot of the double-action guns, it doesn't have a decocker and allows for "cocked and locked". So you don't have to deal with double action AT ALL unless you specifically want to (ie you have to manually decock to go there).
Single action trigger pull is OK (not the worst, certainly CAN use improvement) but for $50 you can install a single action only trigger group that supposedly cleans it up a lot, plus, of course, makes the gun single action only!
If you have to do with a single action, Star (Spain) makes some single action 9mms that are pretty cheap.0 -
Thanks for all your replies. Beantown, is the trigger group you mentioned a Tanfogliio or CZ product? I got to handle a Witness at a gun show and realy liked it. Fits my hand, not too big for a double stack. That would be a great option

The CZ-75 IS available as a single-action "only" model. It sports a different (squarish looking) trigger and a slightly longer frame grip "tang". It shares some features with the higher price "CZ-75 Champion" model. It sells for about the same price as the standard s/a-d/a model. It is very well made, accurate, reliable and affordable.

Its made by Tanfoglio, and is available from the EAA website.
Despite the external similarity, and design likeness, the Witness isn't really a "true" clone of the CZ in that most parts WILL NOT swap.
I don't think you could put a CZ trigger group into a Witness or vice versa.
Customer service by EAA is allegedly lousy, but in terms of bang for the buck, its really hard to beat one of these Witnesses.0
