empire 22 short

My dad gave me this 7 shot 22 short pistol. I can't seem to find any information on it. It says on the barrel Empire Pat Nov 21, 71. Anyone know anything about it? When did the 22 short round come out? I would think the date would be for 1971. I don't think they had rimfire 22 short in 1871. Any Idea if its worth anything?

  yes the .22 short was around in 1871, and your revolver could be that old. can you post pictures?

  Previous poster got it right. There is a listing for a 22 Caliber revolver, marked "Empire Pat. Nov.21.71", in "Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms". They were made by the Jacob Rupertus Co. of Philadelphia, PA, probably in the 1870's.
  
  Depending on condition/originallity, Flayderman values them between $100 & $250.
