Sako date of manufacture
I have a Sako L461 Vixen .222 with the serial number 125682 can anyone tell me when this rifle was made? One source says it was made pre-1972, but it has Garcia import markings which would be post 1972 correct?

I didnt know they made a finbear in a med. calibur. I thoutght the forester was the .243. and the finbear was the small cal. .222 .223. 0 -

The Forrester was the medium action rifle, .243, .308, etc., not the Finbear, The Finbear was long action. The Vixen was the small action, .222, .223, etc.
Your buddies L579 action gun was most likely made in 1968.

With a Serial Number in the 71,000 range, you can expect that rifle was made in 1960 or 1961. The "NEW" L-579 came out in 1959 and was mostly used on Browning Safari Grade guns and Coltsman rifles at first. These brands are generally found in serial number ranges in the 20 to 30,000 range and were made in 1959, also. Sako also sold the Forrester as its own rifle as well as these Browning and Colts. I would take bets on 1960 or 1961 as a Date of Manufacture.
