24 gauge

Can I take 24ga. inserts(like the ones Browning has the "skeeters") and pernamently put those in a 20ga. to use as a 24 gauge gun? I know I would have to custom make the inserts, and I can from a machine shop I use to work at. Also I would have to build up the extractor. Other than that, what else? I know this seems like a lot of non sense, but can't find a affordable 24gs.hammerless sxs! So whats my other options?[:(]

    i build tubes for a living. im telling you up front, its not worth the work! the walls thickness difference btwn 20 and 24 is so wafer thin, it would be very difficult to do. all insert tubes are made larger than bore and cut down in key areas to insure fit w/o blowing out the gun if done wrong. youd stand a better chance fitting 410's into a 24 than a 24 into 20.[;)]

    They do em in 16 down to 20 whats the difference? I can turn the inserts same dimensions as 24 ga. shell?[;)]

    Nominally,the 20 ga cartridge base measures 0.690", the 24 ga 0.655".
    Divide the difference by two and you have a wall thickness of .0175".
    It would take a very good fit to assure there would be adequate support for the admittedly modest pressures used in trap and skeet loads.
    I suppose a couple of wraps of tooling copper on your expensive Fiocchi 24 ga shells would allow you to shoot them in an unaltered 20 ga.

    I know where you can get a hammerless 24 ga. Go to www.accardi_impoters@sbcglobal.net . They are in California and have at least 3 or 4 different 24 ga to choose from. I think they start around $500 and go up!
