getting a ffl

needmyguns
can any one help me out i have got a c-r ffl but i would like to have the regular ffl but i dont have a bussiness now the thing i was wondering is can i get one and have it at my own private residents does anyone no how this works.iv called around but i keep getting the run around like call this guy than call this other guy i cant seem to get anywhere.i know all states may be different im from wisconsin if that could help you all out.thanks in advance for all or any input here

    I know it doesnt have to be a business. The rules state you just got to be able to keep them secure or something to that effect I believe. But yes anyone with more info please post I am also interested.

    This question is asked about once a week. Please check the old posts and call your local BATFE office. You must also be zoned for a retail business so call you local planning office. Good luck.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    You may not need to have a separate business premises, but you must have a business. You have to intend to make a profit by buying and selling guns, or working on guns, or both. You can't get a FFL just to buy guns for yourself and your friends at wholesale. Consult a tax advisor as to how often you must show a profit, but show a profit you shall, or else your business may be declared a hobby.

    You will have to get a sales tax permit, collect sales tax, and render that tax to the state. You will have to register with the county, maybe the state, as a business.

    Generally, you can have your business in your home, but they tell me it must have a separate entrance from the outside. If your home is zoned residential, you must get a variance, in writing from the planning and zoning people granting permission to operate a business. Good luck on that one.

    The BATF may want to inspect the business premises before granting a license, as well.

    I am fortunate in that I live in an unincorporated area with no zoning, and I have my business in a building separate from my home. It is small, but separate. I have never had any trouble with renewals.
