Taurus Revolvers?? +Range Report
Last November I purchased a Taurus Tracker SS .22 mag. The first time at the range the cylinder started binding. I thought that it may be the brand ammo (I had just switched from Remington to Winchester) so I poo pooed it. The next time it started binding with all ammo but not all of the time. I tried slamming the cylinder shut hard and it helped some times. I got fed up and sent it back to Taurus for repair.
I got it back in 2 weeks (WOW!) and the cylinder seemed to spin nicely. But when at the range I felt a little binding, but again dismissed it. The next time at the range the cylinder binding problem was back. Last Sunday I went to the range again and it got worse. I let it cool and it seemed to loosen a little but I still had to turn the cylinder with one hand while cocking the hammer with the other. I now have a large blister on my thumb. It even binds without being loaded.
I clean all my guns thoroughly right after shooting. I have tried Sweets, Clean Bore, Hoppes and many more with no improvement.
Has anyone found this to be a inherent problem with Trackers? If so any hints? I will probably send it back again but doubt they will do anything other than return it without a repair again. I am sure that the last time they pulled it from the box and the cylinder moved so lubed and sent it back.
As for a range report. It does shoot nice. I tried some PMC Predator ammo and really liked it. Nice kick. Was getting 3 - 4 inch groups at 100 yards. We hung a bowling pin at 100 yards and every round scored as it was swinging. Unfortunately the bowling pin did not survive the day. We moved it to 50 yards and challenged the shooters around us to also try their luck. Then my son got a look in his eyes and pulled out the Mosin 91/30. After a few rounds of AP ammo the pin started losing it's innards. All that was left at the end of the day was the plastic shell. THe Tracker's a little front heavy with the scope and all of the SS though. It does take work to shoot.

Shadow, I have a Taurus Tracker in .44 Special and it too has a tight cylinder gap. I bet that if it got hot, it might bind like yours is doing. Mine has never binded on me, but I have never shot it to the point of it heating up. Does yours do it only after it warms up? Mine is titanium and it seems to me the titanium does not get hot as fast as stainless (or it dissipates the heat better?)

I have a 22mag Tracker that has the same problem, but I found out what was causing it. Powder residue was getting in between the ejector plate and cylinder. Hold the ejector rod down and wipe out the area under the ejector plate and cylinder. I call it the ejector plate... the piece that pulls out the empties when you depress the ejector rod.
It happens about every 2-4 full cylinders shot. I use Winchester Supremes.

I too suspected that it may be due to heating up but it does it ice cold at home without ammo loaded.
vepr762: Thanks for the info. This sounds very logical. I'll bring some solvent and a brush to the range next time and try cleaning when it starts.
