Pistol transfer

I'm in VA. My also retired, western NC mountaintop brother has asked me to buy him a home defense/garden rattlesnake pistol. Is there anyway I could do this without a FFL being involved? The next time I see him will be August. The nearest FFLs I saw were in Ashville, a 1 1/2 hour drive for him.

FYI: I would choose a used 38 special, 4" barrel with both regular and birdshot loads.

    You can't buy it in VA and transfer ownership to him without an FFL transfer. Best bet would be to assist him in closing an in-state transaction with an individual, if it's allowed under NC state law.

    There's only 1 way that you can legally do it without an FFL being involved: If you leave the gun to him in your will, & then die.

    I also am a western NC mountaintop retiree. Highlands area. I have found a dealer in Franklin that is always willing to do transfers. His shop is located on Hwy 441 about 2miles south of Franklin and he may have something in stock that would fit the needs of your friend. I might add that NC requires a pistol purchase permit signed by the local sheriff if he does not posess a carry permit.

    Thanks for all the information. He has a shotgun. I'll volunteer to go with him to the gun shop if he still wants to do it.

    What you just asked is completely ILLEGAL, You may not purchase a gun for someone else. That is called a straw purchase.

    If your brother wants a gun, he is going to have to buy one himself.

    You could give him one of your guns, but it will need to go through an ffl dealer for the exchange. He will have to get a background check before taking possession of the gun in NC.

    It is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
