Just bought a box of Remington 22 Extra Longs that is green with a sort of pointed bowtie design that says Kleanbore Kleancote in it. I'm looking for the age range of this type of box and the relationship to the dogbone box era, before or after. Also, what book would be the best to answer these types of 22 box questions? Thanks!

Hello, You really need a book to answer all your questions. The "A Catalog Of The .22 Boxes Of The U.S.A" by Dunn is the book that contains the most info. It is out of print and difficult to find. I would answer a specific question if you need it.

The Kleancote line was introduced in 1936, using a process Remington acquired in buying out Peters. It was not listed in 1949 catalogs, so Dunn feels production was limited to 4-5 years. This was the last of the "dogbone" types, and nowhere near as common as the standard versions. A box of .22 XL in this style is quite scarce, with value (presuming decent condition) well into three figures. Nice find!

You could go to your local library and ask the librarian for an inter-library loan. Inter-library loan services can find you just about any book ever published.
Is there anyway you could post a picture of the box for us?

That one went cheap; I've not seen any sell for under $125 for a long time. Heck, I would have bought it at that price to re-sell it.

Thanks guys, your great! I saw that one too. I watched it but the one I bought was a fraction of that price and still full. Mine is not quite as nice, but not bad. It does have copper casings. I will look for that book. I'm not a big box collector but do like the occassional wierdity. 0
