Any feedback from you on 7mm-08 vs .308.

Most likely if getting the 7mm I'll be hand loading.
(no I don't have a manuel....and an aquantance will be doing the loading since he's done that for 22 years now)

Is there much difference in ballistics? Exspecially down range.

    Does anyone know why none of the BIG THREE offer this caliber in their heavy varmint rifles? The laminated stocks and medium heavy barrels make these a natural for silhouetta but the 6mm has proven too light and the 308 is a little much.

    I shoot a 7-08 and have been well pleased with it. Clean kills on whitetail from 30 to 175 yds. Mild to no recoil. Thumbs up in my book.



    It is easier to get forgiveness than permission.

    I have sveral friends who shoot it on a regular basis. Definately a GREAT choice. It is accurate, effective, and mild. Plus, it is generally available in most gun shops. (also versatile for reloading)

    I have a Rem 600 rebarreled to a 7mm-08 and it is my favorite deer rifle. Easy to carry, mild recoil and accurate. I use 140gr bullets for deer and 120gr for the coyotes. Get one and enjoy it!

    Have a TC Encore and Remington 7 in 7mm-08 and love them. Have made kills to 200 yd (off sandbags) with the Encore on whitetail. Encore really likes Federal Prem 140 Ballistic tips, Remington shoots everything well. Shoots flat, mild recoil, hard not to like.

    I have one in the old style browning blr it is accurate and now my 13 year old son is shooting it.

    i used a browning a-bolt for several years. i took around 15-20
    whitetail and doubled it as a coyote rifle some.
    it's one of the most practical hunting rounds for this class of hunting
    in my opinion. i prefer 140 nosler solid base, NOT ballistic tips,
    or seirra pro-hunter flat base bullets. the speer 115 grain hollow point
    is wicked as a varmint round.
    120 grain will work fine i'm sure but i don't have any experience with them.between the x-bullets,grand slams and others it should work from
    groung squirrels to a carefull shot on elk.

    Well this is an updated version of the "world class" 7x57 Mauser. I have but one 7mm-08. It is a remington mountain rifle w/22 in bbl. If I could only have one rifle it would be a hard choice between it and an old and trusted 270. I have had several 7x57s. I love them too but unless you get one in the appropriate Mauser action they don't seem to feed well. No problem whatsoever in the short actions (i.e. 308 or 243) with the 7mm-08.
