Savage 12FVSS vs. Remington VSSF
I want to purchase one of the above in a 22-250, and I was curious to get people's experiences and opinions about why you would choose one over the other? Thanks.

Unless you plan to trick out the Rem700, go with the Savage. Ive seen those 22-250s shoot 10shot 1/2 inch groups out of the box. Also when you burn that barrel out in about 1200 to 1500 rounds Sharp Shooter Supply can put a new one on a whole lot cheaper than it would cost to rebarrel a Rem 700. 0 -

Savage, better rifle right out of the box. The accutrigger is pretty trick in itself and works great. I can't say enough about mine. Whenever I get fustrated with my shooting I take it to the range and start shooting great groups again. -good luck with your choice

Do these 22-250's actually burn the barrel out that fast using factory ammo???

Does hunting vs. bench shooting change anyone's minds? I felt both rifles at the local store, and the Savage felt a bit heavier and more along the lines of something made for specifically for bench shooting, whereas the Remington felt a bit lighter and as though it would lend itself better to hunting situations. Anyone's thoughts about that? 0 -
they both perform very well from the bench. The Savage is cheaper by a little but the rem700 has more aftermarket parts. I use the rem700's because I am used to them and don't wish to change right now. Both rifles will have great barrels, the savage may be a bit smoother, but a break-in session and light lapping will fix that if needed in the rem700.
You can't really go wrong either way, but I prefer the rem700. YMMV
if you are shooting with appropriate cooling time, your barrel should go to several thousand rounds before it toasts the throat. Some guys have 4000rnds through 220 swifts with still 1/2moa performance. Let them cool and keep them clean.

Just out of curiousity, those of you who prefer the Savage, do you replace the stock? I've got to say that the stock on the Savage, at least in my opinion, is pretty chinsey. I like the action and barrel, but that stock really leaves something to be desired. 0 -
I had a Savage 112 Single shot 22-250 that shot one hole groups right out of the box but it was HEAVY! Best shooting rifle I every owned.

I own one of each and I'd say go w/ the savage if you don't have the money for the rem. Both shoot great, the savage stock isn't as nice as the rem. but it gets the job done. 0 -

I think from what i've read is that you can't go wrong either way. They will both be excellent out of the box. Savage is known to be very accurate out of the box at a reasonable price. Rem 700 just from its longevity made in almost every caliber imaginable is an excellent rifle and will always be an excellent rifle. You will probably have to make your own choice. If money is not an object get which one YOU like. They are both great rifles. Good luck. 0
