Use for a 20",heavy,SS,barrel?
I had a 20" stainless,fluted,heavy[0.740"OD at muzzle], fiber optic sighted 30/06 barrel removed from a Savage 116FLCSAK by Savage.
Could this barrel be exconomically bored out to a larger caliber[e.g.
338/06 or 35Whelen]?

If you wanted to go to a wildcat caliber and still stay with the .308 caliber I would say maybe, but changing the bullet diameter would not be cost effective. If anyone on here says it is cost effective, please send me the name and phone number of the person that can do it, and the cost. 0 -

There are at least 4 thriving companies that will re-bore your existing barrel up to a larger diameter. The one that I am most familiar with is:

They will ream/ rifle/ crown/ new chamber for $265.00
One of the controlling factors about re-boring while maintaining the same basic chamber is whether the chamber is in the center of the bore.
There are others, just do a search on the web.
The other alternative is to get a new prefit barrel from one of the several suppliers. I know two:

It costs about the same to rebore as it does to buy a new barrel such as Adams&Bennett ready to install on a savage.
