Sighting in my Marlin

I installed a William's 5D 94,336 ghost ring on my Marlin .45-70.
I don't know where to start as far a elevation and there is no info on the catalog or packaging.
Anyone with some experience with these?

I removed a scope (new) which failed afer 25 rounds and replaced it with the Williams. Kinda spending a bit 'o cash just sighting in and I don't want to waste bullets missing my target completley.

    This will take some time but save on ammo. Remove the lever and bolt so you can bore site. With a steady rest adjust the bore picture to the site picture at 50 yards. Replace the bolt and lever and shoot one well aimed shot at 12.5 yards. Adjust and when you are "on" at 12.5 you should be good to about 75 with the 45-70.

    Get yourself a big piece of cardboard, say 40" X 40" and shoot close, say about 10 or 15 yards, and start adjusting your sights accordingly. You should be on the cardboard at that range, and so you can then back off some when you get it close. you wouldn't burn up much ammo by adjusting sights after 1 shot until you get close. It would save taking anything on the gun apart to bore-sight it just for that.

    on rifles & pistols that you can't boresight visually i use a laser.....screw on the right size spud & seat it carefully in the end of barrel & spot it at your distance , start adjusting sights.... these neat little gizmos run around $60-70....you can also use them to set a laser sight mounted on a weapon.....just bring the two dots together

    Sounds good. I wanted to save some ammo as I wasted quite a bit sighting in the gun with the scope. About the time it was grouping well, the scope gave out.
    But I had a good time shootin' it!
