Question on "Banned" firearms...

I live in Florida. So, I'm not familiar with these laws.

In states such as CA, NY, NJ where so called "assualt weapons" and hi-cap mags are banned, if you owned one prior to the laws effective date, are you then allowed to keep them? Can you re-sell them?

If so, do you have to register them prior to a certain date? Thanks.

    In Kalifornia the "assult weapons" had to be registered before a certain date. The magazines were not registered & they would have to prove you bought them after the cut-off date. You can only sell them out of state (or perhaps to certain dealers). Handguns not on the approved list (other than cetain banned ones) can be sold only to private parties.

    In California, if you failed to register your assault weapons during the "window" prescribed by the state, you now own the weapons illegally. You can't sell them in the state (not even to dealers), out of state, or transport them (all felony acts). In short, YOU'RE SCREWED! You also run a risk taking it to a public range! Nice, huh?
