    The ammo is not had to find and I get for $10 - $12 a box. I have both an Enfield and a Webley that use .38 S&W.

    Surplus 38 S&W wiith that 200 grain bullet, used to be available. I'm still working on my bags of that. Think I found it in Shotgun News.

    Depending on what part of the country your in. I've seen reloads for as low as $9 for a bx of 50 and new ammo for $12-14

    If you reload all you need are a couple boxes of new ammo and you'll be set for a good while on teh brass side.

    Accuracy for 38/200 (aka 38 S&W) is on a par with the 38 special, but the stopping power is (as I recall) a little lower.

    Lastly there are some Victory Models out there that have had the cylinder reworked to accept the 38 special ... firing this cartridge in those pistols is dangerous as the diameter of the 38 special is a little smaller than the 38/200 and case splitting can occur. And the accuracy is worse because, to a 38 special round, the bore is oversize.

    From the looks of things you got a nice pistol at a fair price. No collector value ... but you should enjoy shooting it.

    Most folks today think the S&W 38 Special is wimpy. Yet the Brits put a 200 grain bullet in the older 38 S&W and thought they had cut a fat hog. I have owned two chambered in the old round. First, many years ago I bought a five shot break top marked U.S. Revolver Co. (made by Iver Johnson). It was in EXCELLENT shape but would not hold 6 inches at 15 yards. Then I bought a Webley. It was the tanker model with the sawed off hammer. Trigger pull in DA was about 15 lbs. Needless to say, accuracy was abysmal. I would be interested in how it shoots in a decent revolver.
