S&W Model 14 and 15
What's the difference between the S&W models 14 & 15. I've been wanting a model 14, but I've seen a really nice model 15-3 I am seriously thinking about.
I really don't know the difference between the two. Thought maybe the frame was a little smaller on the 15 since it looks more like a "kit" gun.

s&w mod 14 is considered a target arm with the 6 in bbl length standard and partridge site, it is sometimes refered to as k-38. the mod 15 is considered a duty arm and called combat masterpiece, standard bbl length is 4 in. an has the ramp style site for ease of drawing from a holster. both arms are built on the k-frame with internal lockwork the same. however some mod 14 were available as a s/a only. regards dux 0 -

I have a Md. 14 that I would never sell unless someone had been dropped on their head and offered in excess of $600 or so. I have owned 2 different Md. 15's and sold them both in the $200+ range. Good guns, just not nearly so good as the 'ol K-38 masterpeice Md. 14!

The barrel on the model 14 is also heavier that the model 15's barrel and has a wide rib on top.
As mentioned, the frame size on the 2 models is the same. Most model 14's encountered have 6" barrels, but there were some made in 4", however they are hard to find. Later models were available with 8 3/8" barrels.
Most model 15's were built with 2" and 4" barrels, but there also 5",6" and 8 3/8" guns made.
The most notable difference between the 14's and 15's is the heavier barrels with Patridge front sight found on the 14's and the thinner barrels with Baughman front sight found on the 15's.
